[People making teddy bears in factory]     The Progressive Era was key in the development and acquisition of rights and freedoms for women. More than and more women were leaving dwelling to work industrial jobs, and this, along with improvements in health technologies, increased didactics, and improved living weather, decreased household size because women did non feel the need to bear more children. In the year 1800, a family had around seven or viii children, but by 1920, there were only 2 or three kids in the average American household. Previous to the Progressive Era, women were seen as belongings owned by their husbands, merely later reforms, women sought equality within their union and felt they deserved to have a say in the terms of divorce, because men and women are equals, at the very least in the eyes of the police force. In 1909, civil marriage laws did not force women to comply with all of their husbands' desires, but rather, could have a say in the human relationship. The gratifying results of these new law for women were accompanied by loftier divorce rates.  In the 1880s, one in xx-ii marriages concluded in divorce simply in 1916, one in nine marriages ended in divorce.

     During the Gilded Historic period, females in society would act according to Victorian ideals- a woman should non laugh loudly, should not disagree with a human's opinion, should not drink liquor, should not expose much skin, and so on. In the Progressive Era, when education became bachelor to girls every bit well as boys, coed learning institutions were in existence and the immature people who attended those schools were mostly accustomed to being around one another equally equals. Twice the number of female students attended college in 1910, than did in 1870.

     Women in society were yet vulnerable and were given unskilled or semi-skilled chore opportunities while existence subjected to extended work hours and chancy working weather. Because of injustices that notwithstanding existed for women, those females who focused on gaining opportunities and gender equality were feminists. There were two philosophies within the category of feminism. One philosophy called for the unity of women to crush the male-dominated gild and the other advocated the unique abilities and individuality of each adult female. Feminists in lodge played the role of improving working conditions, obtaining piece of work reforms, working to ensure minimum wage, and even urging one another to join labor unions. The roles of the woman in the Progressive Era has almost null in mutual with the submissive, controlled, Victorian woman that was common during the Gilded Historic period.
